NeoGraft Hair Transplants in Franklin, TN prevent your good looks from vanishing into thin hair
From the biblical story of Samson, whose flowing locks were the source of his strength, to the pin-up poster of Farrah Fawcett with her famous feathered layers, an abundant head of hair has long been associated with masculine virility, feminine desirability, youth, beauty, and health.
Our hair makes us feel attractive. So, when we begin to lose it, we can also lose our self-confidence and self-esteem. Nearly 56 million American men and women are currently affected by hair loss. NeoGraft hair transplants are the answer for many of them, and the treatment is available right here in Franklin, TN, at Jack & Jill Aesthetics.
Developed in 2009, NeoGraft was the first FDA-approved automatic tool available for hair restoration. Its design provides a less invasive, more comfortable procedure with a quicker recovery period.
It all comes down to follicles
The reason for thinning hair, and the modern methods for restoring it, center around the hair follicle. Most individuals are born with about 100,000 hair follicles on their scalp. Follicles are dynamic organs in the deep layers of our skin. They regulate hair growth through a complex interaction of hormones, proteins, and immune cells. As hair follicles age, they stop producing terminal hairs, the pigmented hair that we see on our head or in a beard, and begin making vellus hairs like the tiny, invisible hairs that coat our nose and forehead. Genetics, hormonal changes, and medical conditions also affect hair follicles and production of terminal hair.
Since the late 17th century, physicians have been experimenting with hair restoration. It’s just been within the last 50 years that great strides have been made in hair transplantation and restoration, and hair follicles are the basis for the best modern procedures. These treatments are Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). Both recreate a natural hairline and a natural thickness as opposed to earlier treatments such as hair plugs, scalp reductions and scalp flaps that usually produced artificial-looking results.
In both FUSS and FUE procedures, follicular units, which are naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs, are removed from a “donor” area on the scalp (many of us think just one hair grows from each follicle, but, most follicles contain two-three hairs, some even four-five). The donor area is usually the lower back area of the head where we are less likely to lose hair. The surgeon then makes micro incisions in the area of the scalp where hair has thinned and implants the healthy donor follicles into the tiny cuts. The healthy follicles will continue to grow new, natural hair.
The difference between FUSS and FUE is the way the donor follicles are “harvested.” In FUSS, a strip of scalp is removed with a multi-bladed scalpel. The donor area is then stapled or sutured, and it could take weeks to heal. The individual follicular units are separated from the strip and implanted into the balding area.
During FUE procedures like NeoGraft, the surgeon uses a small-automated tool that allows him or her to extract the follicular units and suction them into the shaft of the tool in one motion. FUE makes it possible to remove as many as 2,000 follicular units during one procedure, more than are easily manageable with FUSS.
A ‘FUE’ reasons to choose NeoGraft
Here are some of the advantages of choosing NeoGraft to restore a natural looking head of hair:
- The procedure is minimally invasive; there are no scalpels involved.
- There are no sutures to remove.
- There is no linear scar across the donor area.
- A natural-looking hairline is achieved.
- Enough follicles can be obtained to get the dense packing necessary to produce thicker growth.
- Patients can choose a variety of hairstyles afterward, including short styles that would not camouflage the scarring left from a FUSS procedure.
- More follicles can be harvested during a single procedure.
- Recovery is faster; patients can usually return to their normal routine in a week.
